Stagecoach names new South Wales Managing Director
Stagecoach has announced today (29 March 2023) that it has appointed Martin Gibbon to manage its bus operations in South Wales. Martin, who is currently Operations Director of Stagecoach West and Oxford Tube running bus and coach services, will take over as Managing Director of Stagecoach South Wales in May.
A key part of Martin’s role will be working with local stakeholders across the South Wales region. He will also be responsible for a team of around 750 employees and over 100 vital express and local bus services connecting communities across the region.
Martin joined Stagecoach in 2011 as a graduate trainee initially spending his time in South Wales, and has also previously held senior operational roles in West Scotland, South, South West and recently in West/Oxford.
He will succeed Nigel Winter, who has led the business for the past eight years, and confirmed earlier this year his plans to stand down.
Martin said: “Our transport services play a critical role in connecting South Wales and I look forward to working with my team, our partners and stakeholders to unlock the environmental, social and economic benefits that bus services deliver.
“I’m also looking forward to meeting our drivers and customers, as well as key stakeholders, and working collaboratively with them to rebuild from the challenges that the industry and region have faced in recent years.”
Paul Lynch, Regional Director in London and Wales for Stagecoach, said: “We’re pleased that our customers, stakeholders and colleagues in South Wales will be able to benefit from Martin’s extensive experience of running bus and coach services across the country. This is a fantastic and well-deserved move for Martin and it’s always good to see one of our own leaders develop and progress in the business.
“I would also like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank Nigel Winter for his continued efforts over the past eight years leading the South Wales team and 17 years in Stagecoach. We wish him all the very best for the future.”
