Three choirs present Summer Sing – “a joyous, uplifting evening of singing” – in Exeter on Friday, July 8, to help people with cancer and their families.

Music Birds’ Exeter, Exminster and Topsham choirs will perform for holistic cancer charity Penny Brohn UK at St Matthew’s Hall, Lower Summerlands, from 8pm, doors at 7.30pm.

Organiser Rob Carney, 35, of near Buckfastleigh, said: “Singing unites, creates community and uplifts.

“The evening will be special – the choirs will perform a wonderfully eclectic mix of rock, Motown and gospel songs, and we’re planning a moment of playful audience participation.

“We chose Penny Brohn because we all know someone impacted by cancer.

“I’ve lost loved ones to different forms of cancer – so it feels good to fundraise so the charity can continue its outstanding work.”

Teas and cakes are available and all profits go to the Bristol-based charity.

Tickets cost £5-£12 on a sliding scale you choose, available online via Eventbrite search ‘Music Birds’, or on the door.

Penny Brohn spokesman Ian Riddell added: “Thanks to the choirs for uniting and choosing us – without kind people such as them, we couldn’t continue to reach the thousands of people needing our life-changing support.”

For over 35 years, Penny Brohn UK has used its Bristol Whole Life Approach to help people with cancer and their close supporters, before, during and after treatment.

The charity focuses on areas such as diet, exercise and managing stress, through free courses, one-to-one therapies, groups, a treatment support clinic and national helpline.

Penny Brohn UK wants to reach as many people as possible, but relies on donations.
