17-year-old boy airlifted after car overturns on M5 near Cullompton

A 17-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after the car he was travelling rolled on the M5 southbound near Cullompton.

The collision happened just before 11am today (Monday 19 August) about one mile past Junction 28.

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene. 

Five people were injured in the silver Toyota Avensis, which is registered to Pontefract, West Yorkshire.

A 17-year-old boy has been taken by air ambulance to Derriford with a head injury. The other four occupants of the car have been taken to RD&E with minor injuries.

The northbound carriageway was closed for the air ambulance to land but has now been reopened.

Lane three on the southbound carriageway has now been reopened however the other lanes remain closed while the Highways Agency repairs damage to the road surface.
