Appeal after man assaulted at Exe Bridges, Exeter
Police in Exeter are appealing for witnesses and information after a man was attacked in the Exe Bridges area of the city.
At around 1am on Sunday, September 1, 2013, the victim was walking near the Pizza Hut at Exe Bridges. As he approached the bridge he passed a group of people. An unknown offender has then kicked him in the back.
The victim fell to the floor and was further kicked, before he was forced into the river. An unknown male attacker then further assaulted the victim in the water while a second man shouted verbal abuse from the riverbank while also throwing glass bottles at the victim.
As the victim attempted to climb out of the river his hands were stamped on and he was kicked in the head by the attacker on the riverbank.
Police were called and rescued the victim from the river. He was taken to the RD&E Hospital with bruising, but later discharged.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident, but have been given police bail pending further enquiries.
Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or may have been in the Exe Bridges area at the time.
