Appetite 4 Change event a success
DCH and partner organisations deliver successful West Town Farm, Ide event as part of the Appetite 4 Change Initiative
As part of their continued commitment to providing opportunities that help residents and their local community improve their health and wellbeing, DCH teamed up with Love Local Food and Westbank Health and Wellbeing Centre to run a fun joint event at West Town Farm, Ide on Saturday 13 June.
Participants learned about organic farming and sustainable food production and took part in fun activities, for example; Travel Devon were promoting safe cycle networks and brought along a ‘’smoothie cycle’’ which demonstrated that the energy expended during cycling was enough to power a blender.
OrganicARTS helped with a fun craft making activity, the creation of a Sculpture Tree, which is on display at the farm. Each leaf and rubbing on the tree contains a health pledge from its creator.
Attendees took part in a shared cooking experience in the afternoon, making calzone pizzas and chakalaka, a dish that reflected the culture of teams who will visit Exeter in the upcoming Rugby World Cup.
Lesley Browne, DCH Community Development Worker said: “We are very pleased to be working alongside a number of organisations to deliver these events. They are a great opportunity for people to learn about being healthy in a fun way.
“The next event will be running from the Rydons and Newcourt, Exeter. If anyone would like to know more about the event or to register interest please contact me.”
Kevin Cotter, Love Local Food said: “The event really well and we were thrilled with how many attended.
“Everyone had a great day and the families that came were all lovely. Thank you to everyone involved.”
The Appetite 4 Change initiative is funded by DCH and ECC Rugby Legacy monies to provide improved health outcomes in different Exeter communities.
The next Appetite 4 Change event is due to take place on 25 July.

Last year DCH launched their community investment strategy, which sets out the organisation’s vision for future investment in Devon and Cornwall over the next five years. Key programmes within this strategy focus on health and wellbeing and delivering these alongside residents and partners.
