Children’s charity mascot goes on whistle-stop school tour across Exeter and beyond!

Harold the Giraffe, the mascot of children’s charity Life Education Wessex (LEW), is going on the road for a week from Monday 11th July to spread the word about an exciting online resource available without charge to schools from September.

‘Harold’ the Giraffe puppet will be making a whistle-stop tour of as many schools as possible throughout Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Hampshire before the end of the academic year. He aims to visit at least 50 schools across the four counties, including a number in Exeter, to tell teachers and children about SCARF, an interactive educational resource to improve children’s health, well-being and attainment by supporting the entire PHSE curriculum.

Donna Hill, LEW’s Educator Manager, says, “Who better than Harold the Giraffe to spread the word about how Life Education Wessex is changing to meet the needs of today’s youngsters?

“Last year our team of skilled educators visited more than 50,000 children across the counties of Dorset, Somerset, Devon and Hampshire to communicate healthy lifestyle messages and empower young people to make positive life choices. We want Harold to share as many fun experiences as possible with children during the week - sports days, assemblies, storytime, you name it.”

Harold is already a well-known personality amongst schoolchildren as he accompanies LEW’s educators when they take specially-designed mobile classrooms into schools to deliver a range of fun, engaging programmes for three to eleven year olds. The charity also delivers classroom-based modules for older children up to the age of thirteen.
