Contemporary sculpture in the grounds of Buckfast Abbey
“Transition” is the inspiration behind an exhibition of Contemporary Sculpture in the grounds of Buckfast Abbey this season.
The variety of the work is catholic in the broadest sense and opened on Saturday the 8 of June, running until the end of October.
Eight Devon artists have been chosen and their imagination and ideas have been expressed in wood, resin, stainless steel and stone. Although smaller in number this year the works sit and breathe easily in open space and in the smaller gardens in the Abbey grounds.
The event is the third organised by Dartmouth Contemporary Arts.
Sculptor and DCA Chairman Bob Dawson says “ Although we have opened later than other years, this has been to the benefit of the artists making the work. We also have been lucky with the weather placing sculptures. Again I am more than grateful to fellow sculptor Phil Dixon who has shared the workload dealing with the administration, contacting the artists and helping to curate. We are also very grateful to the Abbot and Community of Buckfast Abbey for allowing us to exhibit in such a beautiful setting.”
