Cadet Adam Brooks, 16, from 2469 (Exeter St Thomas) Squadron, Air Training Corps, recently competed in the South West region Swimming Championships, winning a gold medal for coming first in the 100m individual medley.

Not content with his gold medal, he also won a silver medal in the 50m butterfly as well a bronze medals as a member of both the 4x50m medley relay team and the 4x50m freestyle relay team.

Adam has been a member of the Air Training Corps since October 2011, when he first joined 2469 Squadron as a junior cadet. Since then he has progressed to senior cadet and has represented both the squadron and Devon and Somerset Wing ATC in swimming competitions, but this has been his best achievement to date.

“I have experienced many different activities whilst being in the Air Cadets” said Adam, “and I hope to experience even more in the future, including trying to win even more swimming medals.”

2469 (Exeter St Thomas) Squadron parades in the ATC HQ on the corner of Old Vicarage Road, St Thomas, every Monday and Thursday evening from 7 pm until 9:30 pm and is open to both boys and girls aged from 12 to 17.

“The squadron has been parading in St Thomas since 1967” said Chris Myers, the Commanding Officer, “and throughout the years every cadet has had opportunities to engage in different sports at various levels as well as gaining educational qualifications and practical skills to help them in their future lives.”
