Exeter Library shortlisted for national award

Devon County Council’s flagship Exeter Library has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The library, which recently underwent a multimillion pound refurbishment, is one of only six from across the UK to be selected for the coveted Library of the Year accolade at the forthcoming Bookseller Industry Awards.

Cllr Roger Croad, Devon County Council’s Cabinet Member responsible for the Library Service, said: “We have invested a huge amount of money in transforming Exeter Library into a new multi-million pound resource for information, learning and culture at the very heart of the city.

“Since reopening last year it has fast become a key regional library in the South West, with a wide range of first class facilities on offer for everyone to enjoy, from 3D printing to small business support, bounce and rhyme sessions to reading groups.

“Being shortlisted for this award is a tremendous tribute to, not just the hard work and dedication of our staff, but also the support of the community in helping us provide the 21st century library we have today.”

The other libraries shortlisted are Claude Ramsey Library in Greenwich, Dudley Libraries, Orkney Library & Archive, Sunderland City Library Service and Wigan Library. Winners of the Library of the Year awards will be announced at the Bookseller Industry Awards event in London on 11th May 2015.
