Exeter School Founders' Day
The Bishop of Crediton gave his first address at Exeter School's annual Founders' Day Service which was held at Exeter Cathedral yesterday (2 April).
The whole school, comprising boys and girls aged 7-18, staff and governors, gathered to give thanks to its founders in a beautiful service.
Bishop Nick referred to the tale of the good Samaritan using ripped clothing and tomato sauce to make his point. He encouraged us all to behave in the same way as the good Samaritan.
The service was conducted by the Headmistress of the Junior School, Mrs Alison Turner, and the School Chaplain, Mr John Allan.
William Dean, Matilda Venn, Harmony Evans and Tom Kingsnorth from Exeter Junior School led the intercessions beautifully.
The Chairman of Governors, Mrs Beverley Meeke read the Act of Commemoration together with Head Boy Michael Walker and Head Girl Katie Taverner.
The music was led ably by the Director of Music Mr Peter Tamblyn and the organ was played beautifully by Andrew Daldorph and Upper Sixth Former Laurie Kirkcaldy.
The Lord Mayor entered the Cathedral to a Fanfare by Bax, played by the school's Senior Brass Ensemble and exited to both the Prelude and Aragonaise from Bizet's Carmen Suite played by the Symphony Orchestra
The school's Chamber Choir performed Haec Dies by William Byrd, and contemporary composer Morton Lauridsen's O Nata Lux beautifully. The Junior Singers, Junior Choir, Middle School Choir and Chamber Choir combined to sing Rutter's Gaelic Blessing.
A cream tea followed for staff and Sixth Formers.
Thanks to everyone who made this significant event in the school's calendar so enjoyable and run so smoothly.
