Police are appealing for information after an Exmouth man’s vehicle was targeted by vandals five times in four months.

The blue VW Golf has been persistently targeted since November with more than £7,000 damage scratched into the paintwork.

The vehicle was parked in various locations in the Morton Road and St Andrews Road areas when the incidents happened.

The offences began on Sunday 27 November last year when all of the car’s panels were scratched during the daytime in Morton Road. Offensive words were also etched on the bonnet.

The whole of one side of the vehicle was scratched on the weekend of 17 and 18 December 2016, again in Morton Road.

A month later between 18 and 19 January this year, various bodywork panels were once again scratched while the car was parked in Victoria Road.

Two further criminal damage attacks took place last month; the first overnight on 1 and 2 February when both sides of the vehicle were scratched from front to back in St Andrews Road.

The latest offence happened last week between 11am and 1pm on Wednesday 22 February when the car was parked in Morton Road. A large scratch was made over the petrol cap and along the back door.

A police spokesman said: “This car has clearly been singled out and repeatedly targeted for reasons unknown to the owner who has been left understandably distressed by these incidents. The damage caused has run into thousands of pounds.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity around this vehicle on the dates in question. We would also like to hear from anyone who may have information about the individuals targeting this particular vehicle and the motive behind the offences. This information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by telephone on 101, quoting crime reference CR/014934/17.

Information can be passed to Crimestoppers via 0800 555111 or through the charity’s website at www.crimestoppers-org.uk
