Films document the birth of Cranbrook
East Devon District Council has released the first of four short internet films which are being made about the new community of Cranbrook.
The first film which is available to download or view from East Devon’s website and can be found on YouTube, is a short overview about Cranbrook.
Set on the day Cranbrook first opened its doors to the public, the film takes a look inside some of the show homes, views Cranbrook from the air and celebrates the achievements of 15 years of meticulous planning.
Leader of East Devon District Council, Cllr Paul Diviani said “We decided to commission this piece of work for two reasons; firstly we wanted to document the birth of Cranbrook so that future generations could look back and see how the decisions we made helped shape the new community.
And secondly, as Cranbrook has pushed the boundary of sustainability and large scale modern development, we wanted to capture this and present it in a lively and engaging format, so that everyone could understand and learn from our experience. This first film clearly shows that it has been very important for us to include everything that a community needs as early as possible. Future generations who will benefit from this approach will be able to look back at the beginning and understand how and why we were able to do this.”
The subsequent films which will be made over the next 12 months will explore how this has been achieved in more detail, one of the films will look at how this has been achieved by working closely with our Growth Point Partners such as Exeter City Council, Devon County Council, and the Homes and Communities Agency, and those in the private sector such as E.On and St. Modwen.
Mike Owen Project Manager from Cranbrook said “We have always said that what we are seeing here at Cranbrook in unique, on other sites in the Uk you don’t see the school being built alongside the first few new homes, this sort of infrastructure normally comes much later: so I think that it is really important that East Devon have decided to document this and hopefully will continue to do so in years to come as the community develops – what a fantastic legacy for the future residents of this now Town.”
Other films will explore the Energy Centre, the school / community facilities and the Country Park.
