Fire crews busy over Bank Holiday weekend

Fire crews have been busy during the Bank Holiday weekend attending a variety of incidents.

At 0.51am today, one appliance from Axminster was sent to Cridlake after calls reporting a shed on fire.

Crews found a garden shed well alight, with the fire spreading to an adjoining fence and greenhouse.

One hose reel jet, small tools and thermal imaging camera were used in extinguishing the fire. The shed, fence and green house were all completely destroyed.

At 10.13pm yesterday crews responded to a call reporting a fire behind the cooker in a domestic property in Cullompton.

One fire appliance from Cullompton, one  from Middlemoor Exeter and another from Tiverton were mobilised.

Firefighters confirmed a small fire involving a cooker within the ground floor kitchen of a semi detached property.  The fire was out on the arrival of fire crews who inspected the appliance with small tools and a thermal image camera to ensure it was safe.  The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Meanwhile at 1.28am yesterday, fire engines and an aerial appliance from Danes Castle and Middlemoor attended a fire involving a fat fryer at KFC in South Street, Exeter.

The kitchen was slightly damaged by fire and was extinguished by crews using two breathing apparatus, one hosereel jet and two dry powder extinguishers. The cause of fire was accidental. No one was hurt.
