Castle Drogo has been successfully shortlisted for Museums at Night for the second time in three years and the race is now on to win artist Peter Liversidge to host the after-hours event in October 2016.

Peter Liversidge is a British contemporary artist who has exhibited in the Tate Liverpool and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. He is most notable for his use of proposals, written on a manual typewriter. The Castle Drogo team loved the link between Peter’s approach and the idea that the original idea for Castle Drogo may have started as a proposal on paper in the 1900s.

If successful in the public vote, the Castle Drogo team and local art students, with Peter’s help, will invite the local community to experience Castle Drogo as never before. Through after-dark torch-lit tours they will explore how architect Edwin Lutyens made one man’s dream of a castle on Dartmoor a reality.

Paula Clarke, Community Engagement Officer for Castle Drogo said: “This is an amazing opportunity for us to share the story of how Julius Drewe’s ideas in the 1900s were transformed into the incredible building which we all enjoy today. Castle Drogo is truly inspirational and, with Peter’s support, the students will create some beautiful pieces of artwork to share with people at the open evening. It will only be possible if we win the vote though, so I hope that everyone shows their support by voting for us.”

Castle Drogo needs as many votes as possible to win Peter in the public vote. Voting opens at 11am on Friday 29 April and will remain open for just two weeks with polls closing at 5pm on Friday 13 May.  Visit the Museums at Night website at: http://bit.ly/1MWnr9l.
