How Cranbrook’s first play area will look

East Devon District Council are delighted to announce that the children of Cranbrook have now selected a preferred design for their £240,000 play space, the first in the new community.

The chosen design which includes, sensory play boards, an explorers Island with boat and barrel, animal rockers and a toddler play house was designed by Eibe, a specialist play equipment company.

Eibe was one of five companies who were invited to produce design concepts for the community to vote on. This was part of an ongoing consultation process during which the children had previously described how they like to play.

The children had told officers at East Devon that they liked climbing, swinging, spinning, and sliding, they were also keen on a water theme with bright colours, water play and a big slide.

The children of Cranbrook were invited to select their favourite designs at open drop in sessions and during assembly at St Martin’s Primary and Nursery.

Councillor Iain Chubb, East Devon District Council Portfolio Holder for Environment said: “All of the submitted designs were fantastic, the play specialists really listened to the brief and what was important to the children.  The chosen design was a firm winner with the community and I believe will make an excellent and very much welcome addition to the community.”

Once finished the selected design will also include a play area for children of early school age, a play area for older children and a multi use games area designed for young people up to the age of 18.

It is very much hoped that work will start soon on the new play space and that it will be available for the Children to use before the end of the summer.
