Rain, high wind and flood warnings for Exeter and the South West
The Met Office has issued weather warnings for the South West as heavy rain and very strong winds are forecast for the region with the risk of possible localised flooding.
Light rain on Saturday during the day will be followed by heavier downpours on Saturday and Sunday evenings, with increasingly strong winds into Monday which could see stormy conditions bringing the risk of possible damage to trees and buildings.
Yellow warnings for rain and potential flooding have been issued for Friday and Sunday; a more serious amber warning for rain, high winds and flooding has been issued for Monday.
A yellow warning advises the public to "be aware" of conditions and possible effects such as flooding. An amber warning tells the public to "be prepared" for severe and/or hazardous weather conditions and its potential impact.
Saturday
There are no Met Office warnings currently for Saturday. The forecast is for a dry and reasonably bright start, with light rain moving in during late afternoon and heavier rain and strong winds by the evening.
Sunday
Yellow warning. Persistent, heavy rain is likely to set in at the end of Sunday, accompanied by strengthening winds. The Met Office say the public should be aware that surface water flooding may develop quite rapidly.
Monday
Amber warning. A very intense low pressure system is forecast to run northeastwards across the country early on Monday, bringing the potential for an exceptionally windy spell of weather for southern parts of the UK. At the same time, persistent, heavy rain could cause some surface water flooding.
At this early stage there is uncertainty about the timing, intensity and track of the low. However, the public should be prepared for the risk of falling trees as well as damage to buildings and other structures, bringing disruption to transport and power supplies.
The Met Office reorts that "there is the potential for gusts of over 80 mph, especially on exposed coasts."
