Residents at Millbrook Village help raise £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support
Residents of Millbrook, a later living community in Devon, came together to host a Macmillan Coffee Morning. Residents helped to raise an impressive £2000 for Macmillan Cancer Support as part of coffee mornings held at Inspired Villages retirement communities across the UK.
Carole Walker, a resident of Millbrook, took the lead by hosting a coffee and cake afternoon in support of Macmillan Cancer Support. She shared her enthusiasm for the cause, stating, "It warms my heart to see our community come together for Macmillan. Cancer touches so many lives, and this event allowed us to make a meaningful contribution to support those in need."
Carole's dedicated involvement has greatly aided Macmillan Cancer Support in providing practical, financial, and emotional assistance to individuals facing the challenges of cancer when they need it most. With an estimated 3 million people living with cancer in the UK, the work done by Macmillan has never been more critical.
The Macmillan Coffee Morning served as a heart-warming occasion for residents to show their support for an important cause, share moments over a cup of coffee and cake, and engage in meaningful conversations with old and new friends.
These community gatherings offer a unique opportunity to combat loneliness and foster a sense of togetherness among the residents. By facilitating these activities, Inspired Villages creates communities that enable older individuals to live healthier and more independent lives for longer. Alleviating loneliness and isolation, which can have severe mental and physical health implications, is a fundamental aspect of Inspired Villages' mission.
Adrian Paul, the Village Manager at Millbrook, expressed, 'Macmillan is a charity that holds a special place in our hearts here at Millbrook, and our residents have been incredibly committed in their fundraising efforts. Organising the Coffee Morning has been an enjoyable experience, and we're thrilled with the funds raised. These contributions will go a long way in supporting a charity that profoundly impacts the lives of many.”
The residents of Inspired Villages Millbrook raised an impressive £286.00 themselves, contributing to the £2,000 total raised for Macmillan Cancer Support in collaboration with other Inspired villages across the UK.
