School Bus Crash leaves Driver in Hospital

A woman suffered serious injuries after a road traffic collision involving a school minibus and a van in Holsworthy yesterday afternoon. (25 March)

None of the 15 Children on the minibus, from Holsworthy Community College, received any serious injuries in the crash.

A statement on the schools' website says "pupils suffered minor injuries and shock and were given first aid in school." but "No pupils have suffered serious injury."

The two vehicles collided at the crossroad at around 3.45pm, both vehicles left road and came to rest in a property adjacent to the road.

The van came to rest upside down with the 47-year-old female driver from Exeter trapped in the vehicle.

The van driver suffered serious but not life threatening injuries and was airlifted to Derriford Hospital for care.

The coach came to rest embedded in the side of the property causing extensive structural damage.

The 67-year-old driver of the coach, from Bideford, sustained facial injuries. A small number of children had very minor injuries.

The road was closed for five hours to allow for recovery of the vehicles and inspection of the damage to the building.

Officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit are continuing to make enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 436 of 25 March.
