Seaton Fire crews receive a presentation from Seaton District Lions Club of a £200 cheque to be used to aid Seaton’s Co-responder unit in the support of the local Community.

Mike Markham, Crew Manager said: “The local Lions do a lot of fund raising and good work in our community and often support local services with the proceeds of the fund raising events that they hold. This time they have chosen us in recognition of the good work Seaton’s Co-responders do in our community on behalf of Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service and South West Ambulance Service.

“The money will be put back into the co-responder scheme to help offset the cost to the service in the maintenance and replacement of equipment and continue to deliver the high standard of life saving service that our community have come to appreciate and benefit from.

“We received a record 649 calls at Seaton from Jan to Dec 2014, over 80% of which were co-responders. This activity continues to have a very palpable positive effect within the community we serve and we are all very proud to be a part of it.

A Fire Service Co-responder scheme has been operating in partnership with South Western Ambulance Service since 1997 within the Devon and Somerset county boundaries.

The scheme is designed to provide a quick medical response, and fire personnel mobilise alongside our Ambulance Service Partners at all times. Firefighters then provide initial medical treatment and care to patients, whilst waiting for the arrival of the ambulance from our partner agency.
