Service supports charity Teddy Bear event

The fourth Teddy Bear Parachute Jump event is taking place in the grounds of Exeter Cathedral on Saturday 13 October, 11am–3pm.

The Rotary Clubs of Exeter have organised the event with the permission of the Cathedral authorities and the proceeds will be divided between The Exeter Cathedral Third Millennium Campaign and The Bramble Ward which is the children's ward at the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.   

There will be children’s entertainment around the Cathedral, Bearamy Bear from Build-A-Bear and Blaze Bear from the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service will once again be supporting the event and providing their 100ft aerial hydraulic platform 'The Vema' from which the fire crew will drop the teddy bears. 

  Cllr Rob Newby, Lord Mayor for Exeter and ex-London firefighter, will be opening the event at 11am. His teddy bear will be the first to complete the jump. 

A large ground target will mark out the drop zone and there are some wonderful prizes to be won for the bears landing nearest to the bullseye including Build-A-Bear vouchers plus free passes to Paignton Zoo and Dartmoor Zoo. Teddy medics will be on standby to attend to the teddies once they land to make sure there are no bruised paws.

A minimum of £10 sponsorship is all that's required to take part and there are more Build-A-Bear voucher prizes and zoo passes to be won for those who raise the most sponsorship. 

  The Service will be using the event to promote the national Fire Kills campaign for October – Clock Change, Test Your Smoke Alarm.
