Two Devon children treated following fire

Three appliances from Newton Abbot and Torquay stations were mobilised to reports of a fire involving a gas canister at a domestic property in Kingsteignton.

Crews found a fire in the integral garage that had spread to the ground floor of the property, so set to work using four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets.

The incident took place in Calvados Park, Kingsteigntonat 20.50pm yesterday (April 11).

An ambulance was requested to attend to one 11 year old child and one 14 year old child who were suffering the effects of smoke inhalation. Fire crews administered oxygen until an ambulance arrived.

The property, measuring approximately 15m x 15m and of two floors, suffered severe fire damage to the garage and kitchen, while the remainder of the property was severely damaged by smoke. In total four breathing apparatus, three hose reel jets and a thermal imaging camera were used to extinguish the fire and check for hotspots.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
