Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition comes to Exeter

Wildlife and photography enthusiasts are in for a treat; on Saturday 2nd February the Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition opens in Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM).

The world’s most prestigious annual wildlife photography competition, Wildlife Photographer of the Year harnesses the power of photography to promote the discovery, understanding, and responsible enjoyment of the natural world. The winning photographs, from amateur and professional photographers alike, spotlight rarely seen wonders of the natural world inspiring wonder and highlighting the need for wildlife conservation.

Running from 2 February to 2 June 2013 the exhibition showcases the winning images from all 11 categories of the competition including underwater worlds, urban wildlife and plants.

Visitors wishing to gain insight into the passion of the participating photographers can come to an afternoon talk by West Country-based competition winner, researcher and ecologist, Mark Tatchell. On Saturday 20 April, 2.30 to 3.30pm, he will share his fascination of the pristine Antarctic environment in a lecture building on his extensive experience of working as a wildlife guide on expeditions. Now in its 49th year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition is co-owned by two UK institutions that pride themselves on revealing and championing the diversity of life on Earth - the Natural History Museum and BBC Worldwide. Being shortlisted in this competition is something to which photographers across the world aspire. Every year emerging talents compete with established names for a chance to be hailed Wildlife Photographer of the Year.
