Devon homebuilder tees up over £30,000 for hospice charity at annual charity golf day
Local homebuilder Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter recently hosted its annual charity golf day, attracting more than 100 golfers who came together to support local causes. The event raised an incredible £18,125 for the homebuilder’s charity of the year.
This impressive sum was further boosted by the Barratt Foundation’s match funding, bringing the total donation to £30,125.
The golf day was held in September at Woodbury Park and was attended by Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter employees and sub-contractors. It marked the close of summer and coincided with the announcement of the Devon homebuilder’s chosen charity for the new financial year.
For the second consecutive year, the homebuilder has committed to supporting a local cause that resonates deeply with its employees – Exeter-based Hospiscare. After a successful partnership in 2023/2024, Hospiscare has once again been selected as the charity of the year.
Hospiscare is a vital local hospice charity that has been providing expert care for patients and their families facing life-limiting illnesses throughout Devon for more than 40 years. Each year, they offer support to nearly 2,500 individuals in some of the hardest times possible. With just 18% of its funding coming from the NHS, Hospiscare relies on community donations to raise the £8 million needed annually to continue its essential work.
In the past financial year, Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter raised over £70,000 for its chosen charities, and so far in 2024 they have contributed more than £12,000 to other causes across Devon and Cornwall through their community fund initiative fund.
Nicki Reid, Sales Director for Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, commented: "Working alongside local charities throughout the year has been truly inspiring. We’re excited about continuing our support for Hospiscare and the incredible services they provide."
Ellie Melmoth, Partnerships Manager for Hospiscare, said: “We are absolutely delighted to continue our partnership with Barratt David Wilson Homes for a second year and are beyond grateful for the team’s support. Donations like those raised at the golf day enable our hospice to provide specialist care to our patients and families across Exeter and central and east Devon during some of the most difficult times.”
“The past year has been challenging for our hospice charity, as we continue our fight for fair government funding. The funds raised by Barrett David Wilson Homes will make a real difference to our care for local people in need, whether that’s on our inpatient ward or through our incredible community nursing teams.”
Andrew Spicer, Managing Director of Barratt David Wilson Homes Exeter, added: “We are proud to have organised this golf event in support of Hospiscare. Supporting the community is a core value for us, and it’s an honour to help sustain such a critical service. We look forward to continuing this partnership throughout the year.”
