Tour of Britain design competition hits the spot with cycling fans

Devon school children have the opportunity to design the famous ŠKODA King of the Mountains Jersey for this year’s Tour of Britain.

The “Polka Dot Jersey”, as it is often referred to, is awarded to the best climber in the race and the official jersey sponsor ŠKODA is offering one student the chance to see their design made and worn during The Tour.

The competition is open to children aged seven to 16 and entries must be submitted by Friday 14 June. The winner will be invited to present their jersey to the rider crowned ŠKODA King of the Mountains at the Tour’s official prize ceremony on Sunday 22 September in Central London.

This year’s Tour of Britain comes to Devon on Friday 20 September when Devon County Council will host Stage Six, covering around 85 miles (137 km) of the county from Sidmouth to Haytor in Dartmoor National Park. It will be the first time a stage has finished with a ŠKODA King of the Mountains climb in the modern era of the race.

Haytor last featured in the Tour in 2011 when Devon rider Jonathan Tiernan Locke dominated the climbs and went on to win the ŠKODA King of the Mountains Jersey. He became the first Briton to win the race overall last year during a record-breaking Tour which saw more than 220,000 spectators turnout across Devon.

Celebrating its tenth year, the Tour of Britain 2013 will run from Sunday 15 to Sunday 22 September. The race will get underway from Peebles in the Scottish Borders before ending in the heart of London with a ten lap circuit race finishing in Whitehall.
