We all know that pigs can’t fly, but who knew that cows can?

That’s exactly what happened last month when a group of ‘cows’ flew through the Devon skies in an event named ‘Herd of Cows from Heaven’.

The five strong team took part in the cow print tandem skydive to raise money for road safety charity; P-A-U-L-Y.

P-A-U-L-Y (Parents All United Live-saving Youngsters) was set up by the parents of Paul Bovey who was tragically killed in a car accident on 12 Oct 2012, aged 24. The driver of the uninsured car was also killed in the motor crash which happened near South Molton.

Paul’s mother and other family members are now campaigning for young people to take a ‘Pass Plus’ driving course after completing the mandatory government test. Paul’s mother explains; “I put all my children through a Pass Plus course as I felt it would help prepare them for the additional dangers of getting behind the wheel. I did this before the accident and really hope other parents will take my advice and do the same for their children.”

The new charity has already received backing and support of Prince Harry and the police commissioner Tony Hogg.

A petition asking David Cameron to improve road safety through education and enforcement is being complied by Paul’s family.

Jackie says; “There are some really frightening statistics about young or new drivers and I’m determined to help in any way I can.

“One in five young drivers has a crash within six months of passing their test – this statistic should be enough to make any parent want to help protect their children. Our charity will help pay for Pass Plus courses for those who cannot afford it, and insurance companies recognise this importance by reducing premiums for those who complete it.”

The group jumped in cow print onesies a year to the day of Paul’s death. Jackie explains: “Paul was really passionate about cows and worked with them on a daily basis so we thought it would be a fitting tribute to him. Paul was planning to emigrate to Australia this year and follow his dream of a new life in the sun. He had three jobs so he could save money for his move and we’re all devastated his dream couldn't be realised.”

Over £1,000 was raised at the jump which took place at Skydive UK near Honiton. The charity are hoping for additional awareness off the back of the skydive and asking people to see the P-A-U-L-Y website for more information: www.paulystaysafe.com
