Adam Isaac joins Sleep Easy campaign

Sleep Easy, a sponsored sleep out event organised by local homelessness charity Exeter YMCA, last year attracted over 180 participants and raised over £30,000.

Adam worked with Exeter YMCA in the lead up to Sleep Easy 2013, even writing a song entitled Sleep Easy with the Exeter YMCA residents.

The song aimed to articulate the issues and prejudices experienced by the young residents who had gone through homelessness and it was debuted at the event itself.

Adam explains: “I was shocked to hear that one in every 100 young people in the UK experience homelessness and really wanted to do something about it.

"Sleep Easy was such a superb event last year and made such a difference I was sure I wanted to get involved again this year.

"I really encourage as many people as possible to sign up and take part in Sleep Easy 2014 and help change the lives of many homeless young people in Devon.”

Sam, a 19-year-old Exeter YMCA resident, became homeless after receiving a text message from his step-dad while he was at work stating that he was no longer welcome at home.

Devoid of other options, Sam ended up rough sleeping for five months before eventually being pointed in the direction of the Exeter YMCA.

Sam says: “I really encourage people to get involved with Sleep Easy. Its only one night and if it means that people like me don’t have to spend five months sleeping rough and instead can live here and have all this help then it’s got to be worth it."

Adam will be performing a live set on the evening of Sleep Easy 2014 and promises it will include a rendition of Sleep Easy.

The event takes place on Saturday 15 March, at Exeter's Guildhall Shopping Centre.
