Fundraising volunteers from Exmouth RNLI are busy planning an open weekend at the Exmouth lifeboat station, Queens Drive, on 23 and 24 August.

The free event will be open between 10am and 4pm on both the Saturday and Sunday of the Bank Holiday weekend. Dedicated members of the Exmouth Lifeboat Fundraising Team will be manning stalls and providing refreshments.

There will be demonstrations with the inshore lifeboat, George Bearman and RNLI Lifeguards on both days. On the Saturday, Shannon class lifeboat R and J Welburn will be launching in the afternoon to attend the Dawlish Air Show.

There will also be an opportunity to view on board the first Shannon in the South West on Saturday morning and on Sunday. Crew volunteers will be available to speak about their experiences and show you around the station. Lifeboats and Lifeguards activity is dependent on operational commitment over the weekend.

Coastal safety officers and Lifeguards will be available to discuss staying safe on and near the water. The charity’s Face2Face team will be present to discuss membership on both days. Exmouth-based Krispies Hog Roasts will have a stall and are helping to contribute to the fundraising over both days.

Members of the Exmouth Gig Club will also be boosting funds by organising a rowing competition, with prizes. There are plans to demonstrate a man overboard exercise with the Gig Club and the inshore lifeboat during Saturday lunchtime.

The number 95 ‘Big Beach Bus’ and the ‘Geoff Ingram’ Exmouth Land Train stops directly outside the lifeboat station. There are a number of car parks within the area for visitors to use.
