Police appeal after assault at rail station
British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information following an incident which took place at Newton Abbot railway station.
Officers have today released CCTV images of a woman they would like to speak to in connection with the incident which took place at about 1.20pm on Monday, 1 September 2014.
Investigating officer, PC David Browning, said: “On Monday, 1 September 2014 two women were travelling by train towards Torquay. They arrived at Newton Abbot Station but failed to get off the service they were on until it was ready to depart towards Totnes.
“The train doors had, by this time, been locked by the train manager ready for departure. At this point, one of the women pulled the emergency door release to stop the train while it was still in the platform.
“Rail staff at the station went to advise the women that, due to their actions, they would not be allowed onward travel. They tried to board another service towards Torquay but were refused travel by platform staff.
“One of the women then assaulted a member of staff before leaving the train.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the woman who assaulted the member of staff. Today, I am in a position to release CCTV images of a woman I would like to speak to as I believe she will have key information which can assist the investigation.”
