Men face competition as more and more females sign up to the South West’s new obstacle race

In March 2013, the South West will become the latest venue for an exciting new obstacle race.  RockSolid Race (www.rocksolidrace.com), the brainchild of locum optician Ashley Jardine, is already leading the way against its competitors.

With other events dominated by male participants, organisers usually struggle to break the 70/30 split. RockSolid race is already bucking this trend with 50% of women signing up to the event so far.

With the first event taking place in March 2013, Ashley has already achieved great success with both the University of Exeter (renowned for its excellence in sport) and national charity Help for Heroes, endorsing the event.  RockSolidCircuits is now a regular training session at the University with registered participants getting a discount to train.

The event will be held in the 1200 acre estate of Escot Park, near Exeter. They are so committed to the event that they have agreed for permanent obstacles to be in situ. The South West is simply the start, with plans to develop a series of events and a nationwide series over the coming years.

Adding to the appeal of the event (yes mud can be appealing) is the event village. With live bands, a bar as well as 6 nations rugby, it will be a great opportunity for those who have taken part, as well as the spectators, to relax and let their hair down.

Commenting on his new venture, Ashley said “I’m thrilled that RockSolidRace is already appealing to so many people. My goal was to organise an event that takes the good elements of obstacle racing but makes it accessible to women.  People can enter as an individual or in a team – whichever they choose, one thing that they can be sure about is that they will get very muddy, tired but ultimately, they will have one of the best experiences of their life.
