Construction disputes expert joins Stephens Scown
With the multi-million pound regeneration of Exeter city centre in full swing and increased construction a priority nationally, leading South West law firm Stephens Scown LLP has recruited a partner specialising in construction disputes to its growing disputes resolution team.
Jim Gorrod joins the firm’s Exeter office from Foot Anstey LLP. Jim specialises in construction law and in particular resolving disputes relating to building projects. His considerable expertise in this area has led to him being recognised as a leader in his field in Chambers and Partners – an independent guide to the legal profession. He has expertise in adjudication, arbitration, litigation and all other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He has acted in a wide range of disputes involving everything from waste plants to airport terminal buildings and power stations.
Commenting on his move, Jim Gorrod said: “I am delighted to be joining Stephens Scown, who have an excellent reputation. With the regeneration of Exeter city centre underway, and with construction projects set to increase across the South West and nationally, dispute situations are also set to grow. I look forward to helping clients successfully resolve their issues in a timely and cost effective manner.”
Robert Camp, managing partner at Stephens Scown added: “Jim’s expertise in the construction and building sectors will be a real asset to our team. We have been seeing increased demand around construction disputes and bringing someone of Jim’s calibre will help ensure that we continue to bring our clients the service and solutions they need.”
Away from the office, Jim is notable for his sailing excellence, having represented Great Britain at World and European level. He now spends much of his free time coaching children and getting them out on the water, and is a member of Starcross sailing club in Devon.
