ViewRanger have created a new app featuring a collection of walks for people to forage for their own food.

The outdoor discovery app illustrates some of the best routes in the UK for fresh wild food, focusing on Dartmoor.

These are the second in the series of three collections ViewRanger have created in partnership with Sidetracked magazine and international mountain leader and expedition Chief Kieran Creevy.

Craig Wareham, ViewRanger co-founder said: “Nothing beats handpicking the ingredients for your supper straight from the earth.

“We’re delighted to launch this new collection of summer foraging routes which will not only help you to explore Dartmoor’s stunning scenery, but also its abundance of delicious wild food.”

Routes in the collection criss-cross landmarks such as Haytor rocks, the river Avon, and Dartmeet.

The wild edibles that can be found are wild berries such as Hawthorn and Bilberries, plants such as Burdock, Watercress, Elderflower and Wood Sorrel.

Explorers can also forage for the ingredients to recreate Kieran’s pan fried cod with a brown butter sauce, bilberry compote, sow thistle salad, fiddlehead fern and rhubarb pickle and caramelised hazelnuts.

The routes have been designed for any age of all abilities, varying in length from 2.5 to 7.5 hours.
