For the first time ever Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants has taken its place among the accountancy sector's elite after being named in the UK profession's Top 50.

Every year accounting bible Accountancy Age surveys 100 of the UK's leading accountancy practices, taking into consideration factors including fee income and number of partners, before compiling and publishing its list of the Top 50 firms.

Considered an essential research tool for decision makers seeking professional financial advice and services, entry into the Top 50 is recognition of excellence within a practice.

Welcoming the news, Thomas Westcott's Chairman, Richard Thomas, said: "As a firm we have recently celebrated our thirtieth anniversary and entry into the UK Top 50, taking our place alongside the accountancy profession's very best, is perfectly timed.

"All through the years we have strived to not only deliver the very best accountancy services to our many corporate and private clients throughout the South West and beyond, but we have also successfully created a nurturing environment to attract and retain the brightest young talent and prepare them for a long and successful career in accountancy."

The last 12 months has been exceptionally active for Thomas Westcott with not one but two mergers announced, with Butterworth Jones in Somerset and Parkhurst Hill in Plymouth, bringing the total number of partners at the firm to 28 and overall headcount to approximately 250 working across a total of 18 offices throughout the region.

What's more, Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants was short-listed for Mid-Tier Firm of the Year at the British Accountancy Awards, narrowly missing out on the overall title.

"Although we're fiercely independent and loyal to our local roots here in the South West, we are also extremely ambitious as a firm and will continue to look to grow and expand, all the while creating better opportunities to deliver excellent services to our clients," said Richard Thomas.

He added: "Our entry into UK accountancy's elite is fantastic recognition of an extraordinary year at Thomas Westcott which we see as the next phase in our evolution and we will use this recognition to spur us on to even greater achievements."

Thomas Westcott has offices across the South West.
