Do You Still have passion for your business?
“There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living” Nelson Mandela
The same is very true about business – find the passion and you will find a great business. Without passion you may as well shut up shop and go home! If your passion has waned for your business, re-ignite it fast! Or be prepared for more passionate competitors to keep chipping away at your market share.
Do a little bit of research – use www.surveymonkey.com at the basic entry level which is free and find out from your customers whether they are satisfied with your products and services and whether there’s room for improvement (there always is!) Then use this information to re-engage with your business and re-visit what the driving force was behind your business in the first place and ask yourself are you still delivering on all levels?
Has the market changed (it always does) and what do you need to put in place to maximise your competitiveness (this doesn’t mean discounting prices but does mean adding perceived value for money). For example if you’re the only cobbler in town that offers a 30 minute turn round on shoe repairs, make sure your customers know about it at every opportunity: outside and inside your shop, on your website, in your email marketing, in your ads, in your blog, in your tweets. Things like this are your Unique Selling Points and should be clearly visible at every point of customer engagement.
Brainstorm what you do best that others can’t or don’t do – the more brains the better – and don’t pooh pooh anyone’s new ideas – some of the best pieces of marketing come from crazy start points. You will feel uplifted and motivated by taking time out to do this with your team. And then build this in to your activities on a quarterly basis. Your staff will feel included; you will feel re-engaged and you will be reconnected to your passion.
