Exciting events in Exmouth with East Devon's Countryside team
Fun outdoor events and community orchards are in the pipeline for Exmouth thanks to the Countryside team
East Devon District Council's Countryside team is involved in a number of forthcoming exciting projects and events in Exmouth. Alongside these events and ongoing site management, the team have been working with Community Development to create community orchards in residential areas of Exmouth.
Countryside team leader, Tim Dafforn said: ‘’Community orchards involve residents of all ages with the whole process, from planting through to looking after the trees, so that a bumper harvest can be enjoyed by all.’’
The Countryside team continues to deliver outdoor events for all ages and works with Housing to offer free or reduced places on events for housing tenants. A local family recently benefitted from this scheme and attended a family adventure day at Liverton Copse.
Carly Churchill said: ‘’We always love the Countryside teams events and the children love spending time outdoors. Through the Countryside events we have learnt some great ideas, which we use to spend more time exploring.’’
There are more events planned for Exmouth this year including Rock-pooling, Tai Chi and a Marvellous day on The Maer, a partnership event with other wildlife and countryside organisations. A full list of the Countryside team events taking place can be viewed online at wildeastdevon.co.uk
The Exmouth Local Nature Reserve is already well known for its importance as a site for migrating birds and a new vegetation survey scheme, launched this spring, is set to reveal the site’s other important flora and fauna.
New interpretation maps and signs have been installed including a map detailing the East Devon Way. These signs will help visitors learn more about the area and the wildlife they can expect to encounter.
