The generosity of customers at Exeter’s Unit 1 Night Club has helped to fund a brand new blood pressure machine for the Paediatric Outpatients Department at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The club has raised almost £2,000 for the unit on Bramble Ward through the Echo Trust’s ‘Give a Kid a Quid’ campaign at key events and club nights throughout the year.

The Echo Trust provides grants to childrens’ and young adults charities across the UK on behalf of the leisure industry to enable the purchase vital medical equipment. Donations are raised from specially organised fundraising events, under the ‘Give a Kid a Quid’ banner, at nightclubs owned and operated by The Deltic Group Limited.

The local club’s kind donation has been used to purchase a new mobile monitor, which will allow staff to monitor young patient’s vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, when they visit the department.

Unit 1 General Manager Leanne Evans and Assistant Manager Becki Clements recently visited Bramble ward to take a look at the new machine and hear how it will benefit many of the children and young people who are cared for on the ward.

Senior Nurse for Paediatrics Karen Medcalf said: “This new machine is a welcome addition to Bramble ward and it will make a big difference to our patients and our staff who care for them. We would like to say a big thank you to Unit 1 and all their customers who have donated to help support us.”
