Apprenticeships at the University of Exeter have been boosted by two prizes at the Exeter College Apprentice and Employer Awards.

Maddy Geen was named Business Administration Apprentice of the Year, while Head of Apprenticeships Jonathan Cresswell won the Apprenticeship Innovation Award.

The university was also a finalist for Levy Employer of the Year at the event last Thursday (22 February).

Maddy was recognised for her achievements as a Business Administration Apprentice at the university.

Becky Jones, Maddy’s line manager, said: “Maddy joined the team just over 12 months ago as a ‘basic grade’ administration apprentice.

“This was her first full-time job out of school following her A-levels and she was 18 when she joined.

“From the outset she worked hard to complete the tasks assigned to a high standard and to stretch her skills in all directions.

“Maddy fits in well in a professional office environment and understands clearly the importance of her presentation and conduct.

“She is punctual, conscientious, hardworking and productive.

“We feel exceedingly fortunate to have selected and secured Maddy as a member of our team.”

Speaking about Mr Cresswell, Mike Blakely, Director of Apprenticeships and Employer Engagement at Exeter College, said: “Jonathan’s commitment to apprenticeships is incredible. Thank you and congratulations.”

Mr Cresswell said: “We’ve had amazing commitment from the university senior leadership team.

“We have increased our apprenticeship numbers by over 200% compared with the same period last year, and we look forward to making more excellent progress.”

The university is committed to integrating apprentices within its workforce in Devon and Cornwall, and advertises vacancies throughout the year.
