Green number plates available at Hendy Group
Motorists with new and used zero emission cars will be able to have their vehicles fitted with the new green number plates at all Hendy dealerships in Devon.
The plates, which feature a green strip on the left hand side of the registration number, identify zero emission vehicles. It is hoped that they will help local authorities implement new policies such as cost-free entry into zero emission zones, and encourage more people to make the switch to eco-friendly driving ahead of the ban on traditional fossil fuel vehicles in 2030, recently moved forward from 2040.
Hendy commercial director Mark Busby said the new plates were a welcome move and that Hendy dealerships are expecting owners of new and older cars to opt for the green plates.
“The number plates are not just for brand new cars, they can be fitted to any zero emission vehicle,” said Mark. “The introduction of the green plates comes as part of the government’s plans to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.”
The government has also pledged £12 million in funding for research into zero-emission vehicles and the improvement of charging technology.
Transport secretary Grant Shapps said: “Green number plates could unlock a number of incentives for drivers and increase awareness of cleaner vehicles on our roads, showing people that a greener transport future is within our grasp.”
