Dates announced for Buckfast Abbey’s popular Christmas Market

Devon’s Buckfast Abbey has announced that its popular three-day Christmas Market will return for 2022, taking place from Thursday 1st December to Saturday 3rd December (10am – 5pm).

Free to enter, and with on-site parking available for £5, the family-friendly Christmas Market will feature independent stalls offering everything from delicious food and drink to unique gifts handmade by local craftsmen. Visitors will also have an opportunity to explore the Abbey’s stunning grounds and its beautiful Abbey church, which form the backdrop to the festive Christmas market.

The Families For Children Buckfast office is open on one Saturday of every month where you can talk with a specialist adoption social workers and experienced adoptive parents about all aspects of adoption.

The next open morning is December 5th from 10am to 12 noon.

  • 11am – 12 noon Staff and adopters available for individual questions and discussion

Scientists to host dementia information day

Leading South West dementia scientists will come together on Thursday 3 September to hold a free public event in Devon to discuss current dementia research.

The day will involve short talks from clinicians and researchers, as well as interactive workshops and an opportunity to ask the experts questions about Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

The meeting is organised by members of the Alzheimer’s Research UK South West Network Centre in partnership with the National Institute for Health Clinical Research Network (CRN) for the South West peninsula.

37-year-old released from police bail following fatal road traffic collision in Paignton

The 37-year-old man in police custody on suspicion of murder following a road traffic collision on Sunday 4 August in Paignton has been released on police bail until 7 November 2013 while police investigators carry out further enquiries. The deceased has now been formally identified and has been named as Gregory Taylor, but was known as Greg. He was aged 19 and lived in Buckfast. Hope of new jobs with regeneration plans by Buckfast Abbey

Plans are being drawn up to regenerate the Axminster Carpets’ spinning mill at Buckfast, just weeks after it closed with the loss of more than 100 jobs.

The ambitious project has been undertaken by The Buckfast Abbey Trust which bought the 9.24 acre site from administrators at the end of March.

Consultants have been appointed to help develop the masterplan which will be discussed with local residents.

Although the area closest to the Abbey will be enhanced, it is envisaged that much of the large building erected in the late 1980’s will eventually be occupied by...
