Exeter charity launches fundraising pack

Community Equality Disability Action (CEDA) based in Exeter has today launched a new fundraising pack which encourage potential new supporters to raise money for the disability charity.

Craig Bowden from CEDA, comments: “For a long time now we have been considered a great secret and its now we begin to let the secret out. CEDA work with over 250 disabled people a year and the family and friends are aware of the work CEDA do, now it’s time to get the other 750,000 people in Devon knowing the same”.

Appeal to green-fingered Exeter residents

The Stoke Hill Community Association is appealing for green-fingered residents to pitch-in and help create a new community garden in the imposing grounds of St Katherine’s Priory on the 26-27 September.

The project, which is backed by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), will be part of an open weekend at the Priory designed to bring the community together to share existing skills, learn new ones and turn an area of grey to green as part of the national Greening Grey Britain campaign.

The Exeter Pound – good value for local money

This week has seen the launch of a new community currency in Devon. From 1st September the Exeter Pound has been tradable in about one hundred independent businesses in and around the city. Exeter is thus joining Bristol, Totnes and a few other places in England to introduce a local money system that has no value outside its own community, but which will be worth much within it. Come and join a decorating blitz of Exeter’s exciting new community centre - The Beacon.

Volunteers are spending four days next month transforming the former youth centre into a welcoming space for all ages. We’re calling it The Beacon Blitz – you can sign up for just four hours or more on September 18/ 19 and 25/26.

Extended opening hours at Topsham Library

Library users in Topsham will benefit from extended opening hours thanks to additional support provided by volunteers. From 7 September the opening hours will increase from 15 to 19.5 with the library open until 6pm every Monday and Thursday for ‘Library Extra’ sessions hosted by Estuary League of Friends volunteers.

Cllr Roger Croad, Devon County Council's Cabinet Member with responsibility for the library service, said:
