Today (5 February) marks the one year anniversary of the severe storms which battered the Devon coastline, and washed away part of the Dawlish railway line and sea-wall.

Twelve months later, Network Rail’s ‘orange army’ of engineers has rebuilt the railway, enabling train services to run through Dawlish for the past 10 months, and has continued working around the clock to bolster and improve its defences for the local community and businesses alike.

A year ago, as turbulent storms washed away part of the railway line, Network Rail’s team was on the scene immediately The 300...

RMT criticises Government over SW investment

Rail union RMT has pledged an all-out fight over rail investment in the South West after the Transport Secretary cast doubt on the scale of investment in the Plymouth region’s railways by admitting that just £40million has been promised – despite calls for a £7 billion package. RMT has branded the move a “complete and utter betrayal of the South West despite all the posturing and promises after the resilience of rail services was exposed in last year’s floods and storms.”

A spokesman added: "The line into Plymouth continues to be beset by delays and cancellations as the failing...

Earlier in the year, children from the school had made the “Minibeasts”, which include butterflies, dragonflies, bees, ladybirds and snails, from recycled plastic. The “Minibeasts” were then put on planters at Teignmouth, Dawlish, Newton Abbot, Torquay and Paignton stations and the “Minibeast Trail” was launched.
