Established in 1872, the Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA) is one of Devon’s oldest and most established institutions. As such, the majority of its membership represents an ageing demographic.

£2m to fund new South West Environmental Living Lab

The Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has announced a £2 million investment in the Environmental Living Lab, enabling the trial and demonstration of sustainable agricultural and environmental technology in the South West.

Pioneering cameras that catch drivers on their phone to be trialled in Devon

A ground-breaking camera system which uses AI to catch drivers using mobile phones behind the wheel is being trialled in Devon and Cornwall.

The technology, which can also detect whether drivers are wearing a seatbelt, is being rolled out on select routes across the two counties over the next two months.

The trial is being funded by the Vision Zero South West road safety partnership and overseen by Devon and Cornwall Police in an effort to deter drivers from distractions which can result in serious and fatal collisions.

After hearing from Devon residents young and old, businesses and from across all sectors of our economy, in a series of public consultations, workshops and a Citizens' Assembly, the final version of the Devon Carbon Plan has been published today (Tuesday 27 September), by the Devon Climate Emergency partnership.

Selco donates £500 store credit to Exeter mental health charity

An Exeter mental health charity will carry out a renovation of its acute mental health hospital facility in Newton Abbot, thanks to a donation from a leading builders’ merchant.

Step One, a mental health support charity based in Exeter, has received £500 worth of materials from the Exeter branch of Selco Builders Warehouse.

New digital resident's parking permit scheme gets go-ahead

Devon County Council's Cabinet has approved the introduction of a digitalised residents’ parking permits system which will make it easier for users to manage their permit and aims to encourage the uptake of EV and lower emission vehicles.

The new system, which was approved at Cabinet on Monday, September 26, followed a recent consultation which drew 769 responses.

The intention is to phase the new system in from the New Year – current permit holders will be invited to renew using the new system only once their current permit expires.

Having the Covid-19 autumn booster and seasonal flu vaccines will help to protect people from becoming seriously ill this winter, which in turn will reduce pressure on the NHS during, what is expected to be, a very challenging winter.

The Terrace hosts an event for our four-legged friends

A popular restaurant and bar in Exeter is looking to attract a new breed of customer – the four-legged variety, to be precise.

The Terrace, located in The Guildhall, will be taken over by the Pup-Up Café who specialise in events for man’s (and woman’s) best friend. Each session is split by breed so owners and their dogs of all ages can meet each other.
