Lift your spirits and say hello to spring with this wonderful and varied programme from the Exeter Symphony Orchestra.
We are pleased to welcome pianist Richard Deering to the stage to perform William Sterndale Bennett's sparkling Piano Concerto No 4. This is to mark the bicentenary of the composer's birth.
For those who like the more familiar, we will be playing the fabulous Karelia Suite by Jean Sibelius and the ever popular Serenade for Strings by Edward Elgar.
The programme will end with Cesar Franck's great Symphony in D Minor.
This November's concert has great variety; an ever-popular classic concerto; Copland's well-known music surrounding the american hero Billy the Kid, and one of Nielsen's wonderfully expansive and expressive symphonies. We have played music by both Copland and Nielsen before, and the audience reception has been very warm and enthusiastic so we thought we would give you all some more.

To be accurate, if you were down at Bystock Pools near Exmouth recently you would have been in for ‘a big surprise’.

The extraordinary photo shoot has resulted in some stunning images.
These will be used initially in the June edition of Devon Life to promote The Devon Wildlife Trust’s ‘Concert for Wildlife’ to be held in Exeter Cathedral on the 16th July.
ESO will be the first orchestra to perform 'Voices of Remembrance' by Laura Rossi at a concert in Exeter on the 7th November.
A former member of ESO, Laura Rossi is a critically acclaimed composer who has written extensively for film and television. Voices of Remembrance invokes the thoughts and fears of the soldiers who fought in the First World War, by the skilful combination of orchestra, choir and poetry. The ESO will be joined by St David’s Singers and narrators Felicity Cawthra and Kenneth Parry for this performance.
This November concert features three deeply contrasting works. One of Gerald Finzi’s most popular and immediately appealing pieces - The Clarinet Concerto - with soloist William White.
A concert classic – Les Preludes by Liszt - whose main theme was used for the memorable tune in the Saturday morning children’s cinema series 'Flash Gordon conquers the Universe’, and a most beautiful combination of words and music - ‘Voices of Remembrance’ - by the very successful local composer who has played with us in ESO - Laura Rossi.
