Exmouth Tesco colleague inspires the nation

A Tesco employee from the Tesco superstore in Exmouth is to feature on a Mother’s Day card sold across the UK to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Elizabeth Reynolds has had her personal story and photograph included on a card designed by Hallmark. It is hoped that the card and Elizabeth’s story will connect with and support other people affected by the disease this Mother’s Day, as well as raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK. Elizabeth’s card can now be found in all large Tesco stores.

Charity helping suicide bereaved families in Devon to expand after police and county council back Crowdfunder bid

A charity helping suicide bereaved families can reach even more people in Devon after a successful Crowdfunder campaign was supported by police and the county council.

Pete’s Dragons has smashed a £3,000 target as it bids to extend into Plymouth and South Devon – where its much-needed specialist services do not exist.

The funding will also aid the cause, which currently has a caseload of around 300 people, in continuing its work in East, Mid and North Devon.

Police investigate robberies in Exmouth

Police investigating reports of two robberies in Exmouth are appealing for witnesses and information.

The first incident was reported to police at around 10pm on Tuesday 5 February. It was reported that a man entered McColls newsagents on Exeter Road in possession of a hammer.

He fled the premises with bags containing food and books.

The second incident was reported to have happened at around 9.50pm on Thursday 7 February at Central Convenience store on Withycombe Village Road, Exmouth.

Thousands of pounds raised for local charities

Two charities are set to benefit from money raised by co-operative retail colleagues in Devon thanks to the support of their local customers.

More than £2,600 will be donated to Southern Co-op’s retail store charity partners which include Bow Recreation Group CIC and RNLI Exmouth.

The local causes were chosen last year by store colleagues to become their charity partner for a year – many of the stores are now inviting new applications for 2019-20.

The Donkey Sanctuary partnered with the Exmouth based charity Pete’s Dragons who support people who have been bereaved by suicide. Families who are dealing with grief, were invited to experience a donkey-facilitated life skills session at The Donkey Sanctuary’s international headquarters in Sidmouth. Exmouth tidal defence scheme gets planning go-ahead

The Environment Agency scheme to reduce the risk of tidal flooding to more than 1,800 properties was granted planning permission on Tuesday by East Devon District Council’s Development Management Committee.

This flagship £12m scheme is being funded by Government grant in aid and will reduce the risk of flooding to over 1,400 homes and 400 businesses in Exmouth.

Under the Hybrid application Full Planning Permission was granted for the tidal defence scheme comprising of flood walls, embankments and flood gates for the areas around the Estuary and Camperdown Creek.

Work being carried out at Exmouth’s Warren View Sports Ground as part of pioneering sports hub proposals

Investigation work is being carried out at Exmouth’s Warren View Sports Ground by East Devon’s contractor Geotechnics Limited over the next few weeks to give reassurance that the site is suitable for all-weather pitches and other multi-sport facilities.

East Devon District Council is working with the Devon-based charity Exeter CITY Community Trust to develop a pioneering sports hub at the Ground, which is one of a number of sports and recreation sites owned and protected by the council in Exmouth and across the district.

A fast-growing charity that supports suicide bereaved families is appealing for new trustees to help shape its bright future. Award-winning Pete’s Dragons, which has received national and international recognition, is on the lookout for volunteers to join its board as it continues to expand ‘exponentially’.

The Exmouth-based charity supports families and individuals across Devon and also provides market-leading suicide prevention training around the country and abroad.

Pete’s Dragons currently has a caseload of 91, which equates to around 300 people across Devon.
