Visitors to Dartmoor National Park during this period of exceptionally warm weather are being asked to be particularly vigilant to reduce the risk of moorland fires.

Every one of the 121 fire engines in Devon and Somerset will soon be equipped with animal oxygen masks – thanks to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

Fire crews were called to a report of an agricultural shed well alight at Blackborough.
One fire appliance from Cullompton, one fire appliance from Honiton, one water bowser from Danes Castle and one off road vehicle from Middelmoor were dispatched to the incident at 9.40pm yesterday (THURS).
When crews arrived they identified an agricultural shed well alight involving three propane cylinders and sadly approximately 500 ducklings. Crews got to work extinguishing the fire with the use of the fogging unit from the off road vehicle.
