Clyst St Mary post box gets Devon County Show makeover

Carole Price of Clyst St Mary has given her local post box a Devon County show makeover.

Carole, who is a crafting enthusiast, just loves to decorate the village post box and has provided it with several different hats over the years.

This is the first time Carole has turned her skills to the Devon County Show. The eye-catching display includes a number of items, hand-knitted by crafty Carole, designed to capture the flavour of a traditional West County agricultural show with a chicken taking centre stage, as well as a pig, a cow and a sheep.

Volunteers knit 1,500 cupcakes for Exeter panto

Back in July, the Northcott Theatre in Exeter appealed for volunteers to knit 1,000 cupcakes to be used in performances of our pantomime Dick Whittington.

The show, co-written by leading panto director Tony Lidington with Steve Bennett, who plays Dame Sarah Suet, marks a return to panto for the first time in eight years at the Northcott.

Knitters across Devon answered the call and surpassed expectations by downloading the Dick Knittington pattern and producing an amazing 1,456 of the woolly fancies.

Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts returns to Westpoint, Exeter this September with 160 stands full of must-have craft supplies and a wealth of inspiration for makers. The show is a haven for those who love to craft and has been a must visit event in Exeter for 28 years.

A team of knitters from a leading Exeter law firm has produced 242 hats for its office charity Age UK Exeter’s Big Knit campaign. Kate Evans, a trainee solicitor at Stephens Scown LLP set up a knitting club in 2015 when it first took part in the Big Knit for Age UK Exeter. The club was so popular that it has become a regular fixture at the firm, with knitters of mixed ability meeting each Wednesday lunch time. Local Somerset charity Mend the Gap is appealing for local knitters to make jumpers for school children in Kenya. As the jumpers will be washed in river water, 4 ply acrylic wool will be needed as pure wool will shrink. Wool can be provided for those who would like to knit but are unable to get the wool. A 15-strong team of knitters from law firm Stephens Scown LLP have been brandishing their needles in aid of the Exeter office’s chosen charity, Age UK Exeter. Stephens Scown’s knitting club has knitted as many little woolly hats as possible for the Exeter branch of Age UK, in support of the charity’s nationwide campaign “the Big Knit”. Staff and volunteers at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital are putting their knitting needles to good use knitting Twiddlemuffs for patients with dementia. And they are looking for more knitters to join them.

A colourful giant knitted Christmas tree has graced the main staircase hall of Arlington Court in Devon.
