Local Author P.J. Reed publishes her fourth book - 'Flicker'

Local author, poet, and generally eclectic writer P.J. Reed has just published the fourth book in her collection of senryu and haiku poetry.

P.J. Reed is a member of the Exeter Authors Association and this is the first of her two books published in 2017.

Exeter taxi driver to launch Poetry Tours

An Exeter taxi driver is to launch his project ‘West country poetry tours’ in less than a week.

Well-liked and admired Shane O’Sullivan, or better known as Jack the Hat, began the concept for this project just before Christmas. It aims to bring people over from America to experience the hidden gems of the West Country.

He said: “We are trying to get them to come and see some of the highlights which we believe are important and often overlooked by tourists.”

The website went out to the British tourist board in New York on Friday and hopes to be signed and completed...

The Exeter Singers, conducted by Tony Yates are holding a charity concert in aid of the “Meet and Remember Club”, a newly formed charity serving local people and in particular those with early or moderate dementia. The club meets weekly on Wednesdays at The Beacon, Beacon Heath. The choir will be performing a variety of music, from madrigals to Cole Porter, interspersed with poetry and solo piano and voice. Poetry By Heart is the poetry recitation competition for students in schools and colleges in England. Launched by Sir Andrew Motion in 2012, it is an educational initiative of the Poetry Archive in partnership with The Full English. It has gone from strength to strength and is now in its fourth year.

Students aged 14-18 across England will recite a pre-1914 poem and a First World War or post-1914 poem to become our regional winner, and compete in the national finals in Cambridge in March 2016. Come and support your local students!

Poet's TEDxExeter video hits the big time

Pun-tastic and poignant, Harry Baker's poetry had him named winner of the Poetry Slam World Cup in 2012. Now his performance at TEDxExeter in April 2014 has won him another prized accolade: the video of his love poem for prime numbers has been posted on the International TED.com website.

Under 1 per cent of the videos from locally organised TEDx events around the world are selected for posting on TED.com. Harry Baker¹s is the fourth from TEDxExeter to be recognised in this way. His performance has already gone viral and been viewed nearly 169,000 times on the TEDx YouTube channel....
