Work starts on The Point in Exmouth

Work has started on The Point, Exmouth with completion of the 14 waterside apartments scheduled for the end of the year.

Developers Eagle One homes have appointed Midas Construction, part of the Midas Group, as the contractors for the build.

Exeter Finance Ltd, a two year old, privately funded lender, founded by two local finance entrepreneurs has secured their highest loan to date of £1m to a property developer wanting to complete a housing project in Cornwall.

Positive signs for SW property market

New buyer enquiries across the South West rose for the eleventh month in succession in January according to the RICS UK Residential Market Survey, January 2016, with 40% more respondents seeing an increase in new buyer demand rather than a fall.

Feedback to the survey continues to suggest that demand is being boosted by a rush of buy-to-let investors looking to buy before the 3% stamp duty surcharge comes into effect in April. In the South West 96% of respondents said they did expect an increase of purchases by buy-to-let investors prior to the changes.

Increasing urban property prices and falling land values could be fuelling a rise in new rural business start-ups, the latest survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Royal Agricultural University (RAU) indicates. Non-farmers, such as those starting up cottage industries, accounted for 27% of rural land sales in the South West over the past six months according to the RICS/RAU Rural Land Market Survey H2 2015. £5m for councils to stop rogue landlords

Councils across the country are to receive a £5m cash boost to tackle rogue landlords in their area, Housing Minister Brandon Lewis announced today.

Forty eight councils will share the funding so they can take on the irresponsible landlords that force tenants to live in squalid and dangerous properties, making their lives a misery.

The cash will also allow councils to root out more ‘beds in sheds’. Since 2011 nearly 40,000 inspections have taken place in properties with over 3,000 landlords facing further enforcement action or prosecution.
