A new bird study on Dartmoor reveals dunlin numbers have increased in response to efforts to restore the moor's famous mires.
The dunlin is a small wading bird. They breed across northern Europe, Russia and North America, but globally their most southerly breeding location is on Dartmoor. In the UK their population numbers 9,600 pairs and they are completely reliant on good quality blanket bog for breeding.

The star of Springwatch Unsprung and renowned naturalist Nick Baker is coming to Exeter to give a special talk about his passion for bugs.
‘For the Love of Bugs’ will take place at Southernhay’s United Reform Church, Exeter at 7.30 pm. Nick promises a talk that will be entertaining, informative and humorous – so how can you resist.

Exeter City Council has begun repair work to the wall at Bowling Green Marsh, Topsham, using money from the government's funds.
The repairs come after a large section of the coastal defence alongside the River Clyst frontage was severely damaged during the high tides and storm damage in January and February.
This resulted in a breach which allowed the high tides to overtop and flow into the protected land and inkland road behind it. These raised defences provide protection to the RSPB reserve at Bowling Green Marsh and a number of nearby properties and businesses.
We know it's early but we promise it will be worth it! The songbirds will be singing from the treetops and we'll help you learn more about our marvellous spring visitors.

The golf course greenkeepers at Exeter Golf and Country Club are doing their bit for National Nest Box Week to protect the bird population of the golf course. With 12 of their 28 nest boxes currently active, the self-named ‘Green Soldiers’ are working hard to increase activity year-on-year and have an action plan in place for National Nest Box Week.
