Sturgess upbeat despite narrow loss at the weekend

Returning prop Brett Sturgess still believes that Exeter Chiefs’ Heineken Cup dream is still alive despite their narrow defeat against Leicester Tigers at the weekend.

The boot of England international Toby Flood kicked the Tigers to a narrow 12-9 victory at a packed Sandy Park, but Kettering-born Sturgess insists the mood within the camp remains buoyant despite the latest reverse.

The Chiefs currently lie in eighth place in the Aviva Premiership standings, but are just five points adrift of the crucial sixth spot which brings about qualification for next season’s Heineken...

Chiefs to play Leicester Tigers

Exeter Chiefs will face Leicester Tigers tomorrow at 5pm in a sold-out match at Sandy Park.

Head coach Rob Baxter expects his side to fight "tooth and nail" in their bid to get among the front-runners in this season's Aviva Premiership. Back to back wins over London Welsh and reigning champions Harlequins have propelled the Chiefs back up the table ahead of tomorrow's visit.

Baxter wants his team to build on those two successes against English rugby's most successful club side, who will be looking to complete a league double over their Devon hosts and maintain their play-...

Three more commit to the Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter insists his squad for next season is taking shape nicely after another three more players committed their futures to the Devon club. Prop Alex Brown has agreed a new two-year deal with the Aviva Premiership club, whilst fellow forwards Dave Ewers and Tom Cowan-Dickie have each penned terms on new one-year deals. The news is yet another boost to Baxter, who has made no secret of his desire to hold on to the club's crop of young stock. "We like to reward guys that take opportunities and who do well for us and these three guys are all in that category,"...

Chiefs v Tigers is a sell out

Saturday's Aviva Premiership encounter between Exeter Chiefs and Leicester Tigers is now a complete sell-out. The final few tickets for the game, which will kick-off at the slightly later time of 5pm, were sold on Wednesday morning. That means a capacity crowd will be turning out to see if Rob Baxter's side can build on their recent wins over London Welsh and Harlequins, whilst at the same time looking to avenge their 30-8 defeat earlier in the season by the Tigers at Welford Road. Commenting, Exeter Rugby Club chairman and chief executive, Tony Rowe OBE, said: "Games between ourselves and...

Six Nations joy for young Chiefs

Departing England Under-20s Head Coach Rob Hunter paid tribute to his team after they were crowed Six Nations champions for an unprecedented third time in a row after an impressive 28-15 win away in Wales at Eirias Park.

Hunter, who is set to join the Exeter Chiefs coaching staff next month on a full-time basis, could not hide his delight as his young guns produced an impressive display in Colwyn Bay.

He said: “It’s a massive achievement and the guys deserve all the credit – they’re a hard working group and this trophy is their reward for the work that they have put in....

Exeter Chiefs Colts Battle for Top Spot

Exeter Chiefs Colts V Brixham Colts

Exeter kept up their challenge for top spot in the Devon RFU Colts Shield competition hosting Brixham at Withycombe RFC. This season the boys have been rewarded with kit sponsorship from Astley Media, who have kindly provided warm up tops and playing shorts and socks.

They took to the pitch with pride in their new clothing. The ground staff at Withy had done a good job and the pitch was in great condition considering the atrocious weather we had after Christmas.

Brixham started well, trying to feed their forwards who were...

Chiefs are on the rise, says Welch

Damian Welch believes the Exeter Chiefs are making significant steps in the right direction after recording back-to-back Aviva Premiership victories.

The imposing lock, who was signed last summer from the Scarlets, claimed his maiden score for the club in the recent 47-16 home win over London Welsh - and then followed suit last Saturday as he claimed Exeter's opening try in their 27-16 win away to reigning champions Harlequins.

Now, Welch is hoping the Devon club can maintain their improvement in form when they welcome third-placed Leicester Tigers to Sandy Park later this...

Vote for Nowell to win this season's LV= Breakthrough Player Award

There is still time to vote for Exeter Chiefs supporters to register their support for Jack Nowell to win this season’s LV= Breakthrough Player Award.

The talented Cornishman is one of 10 players who are currently battling it out to win the accolade following some notable displays in this season’s competition.

Equally at home at full-back or on the wing, 19-year-old Nowell has constantly been a blight on opposition defences this season and was regarded as the top player in round four as his side saw off a strong Northampton Saints.

The England Under-20s...

Rob Baxter expresses pride in Chiefs performance against Harlequins

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter admitted he took a "great deal of pride" from his side's showing as they completed a league double over reigning Aviva Premiership champions Harlequins. Baxter watched on intently as his team battled back from conceding a converted Ugo Monye try early on to record a 27-16 victory at the Twickenham Stoop. Fly-half Gareth Steenson was the chief tormentor for the home side as not only did he help himself to an excellent 17-point haul with the boot, but his impressive on-field display also helped him create second half tries for Damian Welch and Luke Arscott...
