DCW Polymers transforms beach clean litter into recycled plastic bench for Kenn C of E Primary School

Year five and six pupils from Kenn C of E Primary School collected over several bags of litter during a beach clean which will now be transformed into a recycled plastic bench for their playground.

Independent commercial waste management firm DCW partnered with Keep Britain Tidy’s Ocean Recovery Project, supported by South West Water, to organise the beach clean in Exmouth. The clean was set-up to give local school children a valuable lesson in recycling and the dangers plastic litter can have on the coastal landscape and its wildlife.

The number of UK schools with international links has gone downhill since Brexit kicked in and the UK government’s decision to opt out of the Erasmus+ study scheme.

Redhills Primary school from Exeter back in early 2014 led by Mr Stuart Busby (headteacher of the school in those days) set up a pioneering link with Mr Enrique Ruiz Cano’s old school in Lorca, Spain and a school in Riga, Latvia so as to get an innovative project off the ground.

Equipment and hands-on workshop brings incredible boost to QE's photography department

Queen Elizabeth's Photography Department was donated six cameras, worth £7,400 total, from Sony Europe B.V. as part of the company’s approach to inspire the photographers of the future.

Sony Europe, in partnership with the exceptionally talented London based photographer Tom Oldham, visited the school last week to run a full day workshop and one-to-one hands-on sessions with GCSE and A-Level students at QE. Students were then able to try out the new cameras and experiment with newly acquired techniques.

Lord-Lieutenant launches tree planting initiative in Devon to mark 2022 Platinum Jubilee

The Devon launch of a national project to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 took place at an Exeter primary school on Tuesday (October 12) with a ceremonial tree planting.

The Queen’s representative in Devon, the Lord-Lieutenant David Fursdon, and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant Lady Arran presented a Pyrus Calleryana Chanticleer, also known as a Chanticleer Pear, to Wynstream Primary School.

Staff and students at South Devon High School are celebrating as its career guidance programme is awarded top marks.

The school reached the milestone of 100% across all eight Gatsby Benchmarks, which are a framework developed to support schools and colleges in providing their students with the best possible careers education and guidance.

Parents, children and teachers in Exeter are being asked to share their experiences of lockdown learning as part of a new survey.

Experts hope the research will help them develop new support for pupils in the city this summer to help their wellbeing and education.

Tiverton boarding school turns over new leaf with new grounds equipment

A Tiverton boarding school has purchased a new fleet of grounds equipment after securing a six-figure funding package from HSBC UK as part of a wider overhaul of the grounds within the school’s 120-acre site.

Blundell’s School switched banks to HSBC UK in October 2020 and has used additional funding from the bank to purchase a fleet of high-quality grounds equipment, including tractors, a four-meter-long mower and a turf conditioner. Steve Brown, Director of Public Health Devon, is asking families with school-age children to do all they can to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The call comes as schools and colleges invite all students back this week and as pupils begin to be regularly tested using rapid, lateral flow tests.
